Surveyor's Field Notes

Surveyor's Notebook ...a laser beam from the surveyor's instrument is aimed at a special reflector held by an assistant.

The returning laser beam tells the instrument the distance. Using mathematics and a variety of other known distances, the elevations, then the heights and ground levels can be determined.

To an engineer, the process is straight-forward. It is extremely accurate. Field notes are kept as the process continues.
